Ernst Barlach was a sculptor, drawer and writer, however he felt that he came “closest to the creative spirit” through music. The Ernst Barlach Haus has cultivated this close affinity to music – and also to the performing arts – since its opening in 1962.
In 1996, the series Klang & FORM (sound and form) was launched. The project emerged from the idea of developing events specially designed for the Ernst Barlach Haus in close collaboration with the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hamburg (Academy of Music and Theatre Hamburg). At the same time, it aims to provide emerging artists with the opportunity to gain experience in performing to the public in a professional context.
Since then, Klang & FORM has made a name for itself as a forum for outstanding talents and special programmes. On most occasions, the performances are moderated by the interpreters or professors of the Hochschule für Musik und Theater.
